He looks away from the book as if to ponder ideas springing from what he has read. This sculpture and the four “World of…” bas-reliefs found on page 7 are located in the children’s storytelling garden and illustrate the theme, “Open New Worlds Through Reading.” All five sculptures were produced by members of the Southwest Sculpture Society. Shoreline; 78401 Harbor Playhouse median @ Brewster St. Cost: $20,700 Year: 1980 Commission: Tourist & Convention Development Fund This stylized seagull riding a sea wave crest is located behind the American Bank Center in the median between the American Bank Center parking lot and the Harbor Playhouse. Sea-Bird is 21 x 12 x 9 feet and sits on a 16 ton concrete base. The bird is constructed of welded copper sheets that were originally chemically treated to produce a patina, but the patina now occurs naturally from the salty atmosphere.
